Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy in California

If you've ever said "part of me wants this, but another part of me is terrified," you already understand the core insight of Internal Family Systems. IFS is an evidence-based, non-pathologizing approach that views the mind as naturally made up of parts, and holds that beneath them all is a calm, compassionate Self capable of healing. Even the parts that cause pain, like the inner critic, the anxiety that scans for danger, or the numbness that arrives when things become too much, are understood as protectors that took on their jobs for good reasons, usually long ago.

In our work together, we get to know these parts with curiosity rather than force, befriending the inner critic with self-compassion and loving-kindness. This is why IFS is especially effective for complex trauma and anxiety: it heals the wounds those protectors have been guarding, rather than just managing symptoms.

IFS is the foundation of my practice. My training at the California Institute of Integral Studies integrates transpersonal psychotherapy and depth psychology with parts work, and I offer IFS therapy to adults and couples online across California.
